How To Make Soda
Posted by Courtney Schatz on Aug 5th 2020
Hi guys! Today we are making homemade soda! Homemade soda is awesome because it has less artificial ingredients than store bought soda. Plus you can try whatever flavors you want and make as much or as little as you need. It's cheap too, considering you can make 5 gallons for $14.99 once you have the equipment.
The equipment you’ll need is a large bucket, stirring spoon, and thermometer. Get it here.
The ingredients are water, sugar, flavoring, and yeast. Shop our ingredient kits here.
The ingredient and equipment kits come with everything to make 5 gallons of soda.
First, clean and sanitize your equipment. This is very important because we don’t want anything contaminating our soda. Here are links for our favorite cleaning and sanitizing products.
Assemble your bucket and spigot. It’s a good idea to test the system with plain water to make sure it doesn’t leak before using it to make the actual soda.
Next, combine the water, sugar, and flavoring together and bring to a boil.
Transfer the mixture to a bucket and top with cool water.
Mix the yeast with one cup of hot water and let sit 5 mins, stirring occasionally. Add this to the bucket.
Use the spigot to fill plastic bottles. Leave a bit of headroom at the top. Don’t use glass because the built-up pressure could shatter them. Let the bottles sit in room temperature for 2-3 days.
Refrigerate to stop the carbonation!
Your soda is now ready to drink. Thanks for reading, enjoy!
